TV Host Spreads Awareness on Missing and Exploited Children

CLARENCE, NY - Many people think it won't happen to them. John Walsh thought the same thing in 1981 before his 6-year-old son Adam was kidnapped and murdered.

As host of the television show "America's Most Wanted" Walsh has been able to spread awareness on the seriousness of missing children.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, founded in 1984, has helped locate children through a 24 hour tip-hotline, posters, internet searches and holding events like the one held Saturday night in Clarence.

Teens & self-esteem: Your teen’s self-esteem dependent on you

Teens & self-esteem: Your teen’s self-esteem dependent on you

So what is self-esteem, more importantly low self-esteem? Low self-esteem is a distorted view of self that affects many beliefs and assumptions that one has about oneself. Low self-esteem generally forms in childhood and is usually fully set by age 8 to 10.

In 2008 Dove (yes the soap) released Real Girls, Real Pressure: A National Report on the State of Self-Esteem. The Dove Self-Esteem Fund commissioned the report and learned that there was at the time and may still be a self-esteem crisis in the country. This crisis affects every aspect of a young girl’s life such as looks, performance, and relationships.

Judge Issues Decision on Erie County Redistricting

BUFFALO, NY-- Late Thursday afternoon, a federal judge revealed what the new districts will look like for the Erie County Legislature.

The decision, handed down by Judge William M. Skretny, included a new map, drawn by the court, of the new, eleven districts -- reduced from the current number of 15.

The court was forced to draw the map after legislators could not agree on one.

Perhaps most noteworthy is that the court did away with the one, large super-district that included all of the rural towns and villages. Instead, he split them into four districts.
