Benefit to Honor Memory of Flight 3407 Victim
Events, People

From a letter received in the WGRZ 2 On Your Side newsroom:

I lost my uncle, John Fiore, on Flight 3407. My family and I are holding a charity golf tournament in his honor.

The John J. Fiore Memorial Golf Tournament starts at noon on Sunday, September 26, at Hyde Park Golf Course in Niagara Falls, NY.

On February 12, 2009, John passed away on Flight 3407 in Clarence, NY while returning from a vacation in China. He dedicated his life to his family and his country, leaving behind a daughter, a son with special needs, two grandchildren, a sister, a brother, nieces, nephews and countless friends.

John spent 30 years serving our country in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Having fought for our freedom in Vietnam, Desert Storm and had two tours of duty in the Iraqi War, John retired from active duty in 2006 and was due to retire from his civilian career at Washington Mills in 2011. Our hero continues to be sorely missed.

Proceeds from the tournament will go to The Ronald McDonald House of Buffalo. John always had a special place in his heart for children, having spearheaded fundraisers for Children's Hospital and various local organizations. RMH of Buffalo helps to provide children a strong mind, a strong body and a safe, supportive place to grow.

The cornerstone, Ronald McDonald House of Buffalo, opened in 1983 with the single focus of providing a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. Since that time, more than 10,000 families from around WNY, the country and the world, have benefited from the comfort provided by the Ronald McDonald House.

I am writing to you today in the hope of obtaining donated gifts and services that can be used as prizes for raffles to raise money for this worthy cause. We would like to thank you in advance for your wonderful gift.  Your generosity and support will bring great comfort to the children and families that RMH of Buffalo works so hard for.

Should you choose to offer a monetary donation, please make all checks payable to:  The John J. Fiore Memorial Golf Tournament.   Please call Ron Aughtmon at 716-440-3048 or Diane Zambotti at 716-471-6280 to have your donations picked up, or for any questions. You may mail checks or donations to: PO Box 1781 Niagara Falls, NY 14302.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and hope that with your help we can achieve our goal of raising $7,500 for RMH of Buffalo.

Sincerely,

The Family and Friends of John J. Fiore
