Lewiston, NY – Baila Brazil, a colorful celebration of Afro-Brazilian culture, has sold out the Sydney Opera House, London’s Royal Festival Hall and the Casino de Paris. This month, the show makes its exclusive North American premiere right here in Western New York. The Balé de Rua dance troupe will electrify Artpark’s Mainstage Theater in Lewiston from July 14 to 17 for four energetic and culturally immersive performances.

Balé de Rua was established by Fernando Narduchi and Marco Antônio Garcia in Uberlândia, Brazil. The backdrop was the ’80s in a city brimming with culture, and young people were finally feeling free to explore and honor their heritage. The two artists sought to capture and express the style, rhythm and soulfulness of the urban dance groups that were multiplying in the streets of Brazil’s biggest cities.

Together they created Baila Brazil, a production that harnesses the grit, spirituality, consciousness and exuberant culture of Narduchi and Garcia’s beloved Brazil. On the surface, Baila Brazil is a 90-minute nonstop party, complete with urban dance performances, infectious rhythms and breathtaking visuals. Yet at its core, Baila Brazil is so much more.

“This show is about the Brazilian spirit and the richness and diversity of the Brazilian culture. It’s about the heritage and influences of the Afro-Brazilian culture and its deep contribution to the identity of Brazil as a country,” said Narduchi. “It’s about Brazil – the Brazil we love.”

Brazil is currently experiencing a fresh wave of curiosity and attention from individuals around the globe as the country gears up to host the 2016 Summer Olympics in August.

“Not everyone has the opportunity to go to the Olympics in Brazil or travel the world to experience diverse cultures firsthand,” said Sonia Clark, executive director of Artpark. “Baila Brazil is an immersive spectacle of authentic Brazilian culture. It will bring the joy of Carnival here to Artpark where we will make sure you’ll dance in the aisles and on the courtyard.”

Baila Brazil brings the excitement of a hot summer night party and a feel-good experience with after-parties on the courtyard with Balé De Rua, mixed by local DJ déjá blü, and a daytime carnival on Saturday afternoon. Baila Brazil by Balé De Rua is presented by Artpark and M&T Bank, in association with Thierry Suc and Pierre Morand. Tickets range from $25 to $55.
