The History Center is pleased to present a new program entitled, “Malt Shop Memories,” designed to take you for a stroll down memory lane and reminisce about the heyday of Lockport’s malt shop era. Many folks who were around in the 1940s and 50s still remember their afterschool trips to Lockport’s purveyors of frozen delicacies, soda shops like The Crystal, The Royal and Castle’s.  In fact, chances are most folks probably enjoyed a favorite “hang out” that became their home-away-from-home as a youth.

Join us on Saturday, March 24th at 1 p.m. at the Erie Canal Discovery Center, 24 Church Street, Lockport, to enjoy a good old fashioned Ice Cream Social, complete with 50s music, fashions, ice cream sundaes and toppings.  Dig into your closet and try to find some remnants of clothing that would have been popular during the soda shop era, too. Perhaps you still have a poodle skirt or saddleback shoes, whatever you can find to add to the fun and excitement.   Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes, too.
