Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum Takes Part in New York Heritage Weekend

The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is proud to be an event sponsor for the third annual New York Heritage Weekend taking place May 19 – 20, 2012.  Celebrating the state’s unique role in shaping America, Heritage Weekend features special programs and events from New York City, north to the Canadian border, west to Buffalo, and everywhere in between. It’s an exciting state-wide event and a great way to kick-off the summer tourism season.

The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum will be participating in the event by offering free admission to all visitors on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 – 20, from 12:00pm – 4:00pm. If you’ve always wanted to check out the museum, or come back for a repeat visit, this is the perfect time. Enjoy the exhibits on carrousel and band organ production, displays of antique carrousel horses, and hands-on children’s gallery all at no charge. Learn more about how horses were made by talking with a woodcarver who will be demonstrating this vanishing craft each day. For younger visitors, hands-on crafts will provide an additional way to experience the legacy of Herschell carrousels in the local community.

Heritage Weekend is made possible through partnerships with federal, state, and private organizations, and the work of hundreds of volunteers at heritage destinations across the state. In 2011 Heritage Weekend attracted 20,000 visitors and brought in more than $1.6 million in two days—proving that celebrating our state’s unique history is not only fun, but also good for the local economy. Don’t miss this special opportunity to visit the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum for free. Rides on either the 1916 Allan Herschell full-size carousel or the 1940s kiddie carousel are not included in free admission, but may be purchased for fifty cents each.

The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is housed in the historic Allan Herschell Company Factory building at 180 Thompson Street, North Tonawanda.
