Street Painting Festival Brings Pavement Alive With Amazing Artwork

Expressions in Chalk 2011, the unique street painting festival held annually in nearby London, Ontario, will be held this year from July 30 through Aug. 1. Participants will create colorful works of art in chalk pastels in the parking lot at St. James Westminster Anglican Church, 120 Bruce St., in beautiful Wortley Village. 

Imadon’s Expressions in Chalk is a free admission, family oriented summer street-painting festival that attracts thousands of visitors as well as local and international artists.

In less than a week, Cheektowaga graduate Lisa Barrett will know if her song is the best in the world.

Barrett penned a track titled “When You Look at Me” in memory of her nephew, Austin, who lost his battle with cancer just shy of his second birthday, and the song has made it to the sixth round of the international Best Original Song Competition.

Billed as “the biggest three-day summer party ever,” OMAC Rock the Park 2011 will take place from July 21-23 in Harris Park in nearby London, Ontario, and Western New York music lovers are invited to join in the fun!

An impressive lineup of bands has been announced. On Thursday, July 21, music fans will be treated to Poison, John Kay & Steppenwolf, Loverboy and Trooper. Meat Loaf, Cheap Trick, Blue Oyster Cult and Bad Company’s Brian Howe are the headliners on Friday, July 22. Rounding out the show on Saturday, July 23, are Stone Temple Pilots, Our Lady Peace, Sloan and Bleeker Ridge.

The year is 1949. In a school for troubled kids, a new supervisor, Clement Mathieu (Gerard Jugnot) arrives to find a house of misfits overseen by a tyrannical headmaster.  While everyone has written off these kids, he uses the power of music to encover their real potential. 

On Thursday June 9 at 7 pm, the Alliance Francaise of Buffalo is proud to sponsor the showing of the 2004 wildly-acclaimed movie the Chorus.  The movie was nominated for best music and foreign film awards. 

The movie will be shown at the Screening Room Cinema and Cafe located at 3131 Sheridan Drive in Amherst.  Prices are $5 for AFB members / $7 otherwise.  The Screening Room has a comprehensive snack and drinks menu including alcoholic beverages.
