Association’s commitment to providing programs of value, member benefits, Online Plan Room and more seen as driver for increase

The Construction Exchange of Buffalo & WNY, Inc., a non-profit organization that serves the Western New York commercial construction industry, announced today it has increased its membership by 50 percent over the last five years.

With 50 percent more members and plans to grow even more, it was necessary for, the association to hire additional staff to ensure the member experience does not suffer. To fill this role, the Construction Exchange hired Bill Diehl as Membership Director. Diehl will be responsible for continuing the growth and promoting engagement with current members.

A stable construction market and improvements in the services offered by the association are seen as contributing factors to the membership growth.

“The construction market in the Western New York area itself has remained relatively stable compared to the rest of the country,” said Joseph Benedict Jr., Associate Director. “While contractors in other areas were struggling to survive due to lack of work, Western New York has been stable and is even in the midst of resurgence in construction in the downtown Buffalo core.”

Continuing to build on a strong reputation and trust in the industry, the Construction Exchange provides members with programs that are value-added, discounts within the industry and much more.

One of the main benefits to members and a leading reason for membership growth is the Construction Exchange Online Plan Room. The Online Plan Room provides technology that makes it easier for members to find and bid on more project opportunities.

Other factors leading to membership increase:

  • Safety training: A top priority in the construction industry and a key focus of the association. Each year the Construction Exchange obtains grant funding to offer a variety of construction safety courses at almost no cost to members.
  • Networking: As the largest association serving the local commercial construction industry, the Construction Exchange hosts a number of networking events. Two events - the Summer Outing and Christmas Luncheon - draw close to 2,000 people combined.
  • Discounts: Members can get discounts on gas, construction contract documents, construction software, fleet management, and more.
  • Benefits & Charity: As a local association, the Construction Exchange is able to provide benefits tailored for the WNY construction industry that large out-of-town competitors cannot. The Construction Exchange also gives back to the local community. Each year the association’s charitable foundation raises over $50,000 for programs to support education for young people entering the construction industry.

The Construction Exchange will be holding a membership meeting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 31 at the Pierce Arrow-Buffalo Transportation Museum. John Koelmel, President and CEO of First Niagara Bank, will be the featured guest speaker. Koelmel will speak to the group about the state of the Western New York economy.
