How to Make Your Car Last Forever: Auto Q&A with Tom Torbjornsen

Dear Tom,

I own a  ’90 Cadillac Brougham. Its knock sensor went out which caused it to run poorly. I have replaced the sensor, but the car still misfires. I had it scanned for codes but there are none in the computer memory. What could be the causing this problem? Could the problem be the ignition coil?

Dear Tom,

I own a 2010 Infiniti G-37 coupe. The tires were fine until it got cold outside. Now the tire pressure monitoring system indicates that the tire pressures are low. The tires look fine to me. What’s up with this?

How to Make Your Car Last Forever: Auto Q&A with Tom Torbjornsen

Dear Tom,

My ’02 Oldsmobile Alero has had the ignition switch replaced four times in the past two years! Each time the switch fails everything seems normal. However, when I turn the key to start the vehicle nothing happens … no cranking, no clicking, it’s just dead. The battery has been replaced. Every time the problem occurs the Olds dealer says the problem is the magnet on the ignition switch, which is part of the security system. Do you know why this is happening?
