New IRS YouTube Video – How to Check on Your Refund

With the April 15 tax filing deadline approaching, the Internal Revenue Service created a new YouTube video to provide taxpayers more details and tips to check on their tax refund.

The new video How to Use the Where's My Refund? Tool  offers in-depth information about how the redesigned “Where’s My Refund” tool on IRS.gov works. The IRS’s previous refund YouTube video When Will I Get My Refund? has already received more than 750,000 views. The IRS expects this video will also be a helpful resource for taxpayers.

The IRS issues more than nine out of 10 refunds to taxpayers in less than 21 days. Even though the IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days, some tax returns will require additional review and take longer.

Jacobs Takes Major Step in Going Paperless

Jacobs Takes Major Step in Going Paperless

Will save time and money

Erie County, NY – County Clerk Jacobs announced a major accomplishment in his effort to use technology to save time for customers and money for the taxpayer. Nearly 25,000 documents that have historically come into the Clerk’s Office in paper-form every year are now coming into the office electronically.

“This is very significant because we have had one full-time employee assigned solely to this task to process all this paperwork. This employee is now ‘freed-up’ to be able to do other critical tasks, like getting our customers in-and-out of the office more quickly,” said County Clerk Chris Jacobs. The innovation is also saving money in costly paper and postage he said.

Important Reminders about Tip Income

If your pay from your job includes tips, the IRS has a few important reminders about tip income:

Safeguard Your Refund: Choose Direct Deposit

Safeguard Your Refund: Choose Direct Deposit

Direct deposit is the fast, easy and safe way to receive your tax refund. Whether you file electronically or on paper, direct deposit gives you access to your refund faster than a paper check.

Here are four reasons more than 80 million taxpayers chose direct deposit in 2012:

1. Security.  Every year the U.S. Postal Service returns thousands of paper checks to the IRS as undeliverable. Direct deposit eliminates the possibility of a lost, stolen or undeliverable refund check.

2. Convenience.  With direct deposit, the money goes directly into your bank account. You will not have to make a special trip to the bank to deposit the money yourself.

3. Ease.  It’s easy to choose direct deposit. When you are preparing your tax return, simply follow the instructions on the tax return or in the tax software. Make sure you enter the correct bank account and bank routing transit numbers.
