Sometimes, a terrible situation can bring out the absolute best in people.

When word got out that two iPads were recently stolen from Dog Ears Bookstore & Café in South Buffalo after someone broke into the nonprofit community bookstore after business hours, many individuals from South Buffalo and beyond stepped up with donations and offers of support. One such individual was Garret Cleversley, CEO of MacSolutions Plus, an Apple-authorized retail store and service center located in the Eastern Hills Mall.

On Friday, May 29, Cleversley invited Thomas McDonnell, executive director of Dog Ears Bookstore, out to MacSolutions Plus and presented him with two brand new iPads for the bookstore. A high insurance deductible made it nearly impossible for the bookstore to replace the iPads without assistance from the community.

“I read about the theft at the bookstore and wanted to do something to help them out,” Cleversley said at the meeting. “Our old store in West Seneca was robbed and it’s a horrible feeling to walk in and see your place violated. We hope that replacing those two iPads will help them with their healing!”

Located at 688 Abbott Road, Dog Ears Bookstore & Café hosts literacy programs for all ages, from toddlers to seniors, plus a wide variety of workshops and self-improvement classes, poetry readings, community events, frequent book-signings featuring local authors and much more.
