Erie County Legislator Edward A. Rath, III recognized Annette Adamczak of the Town of Newstead for her commitment to educating the community, especially youth, about CPR and AED training. In honor of her efforts, Legislator Rath named Adamczak the July 2012 Erie County Legislature Citizen of the Month, presenting her a proclamation during the July 12, 2012 session.

“Annette is truly a spectacular individual. She has taken on an initiative and her efforts will have a lasting, positive impact on our community. In just six months, Annette provided CPR training to 2,000 kids, that is an amazing accomplishment,” Legislator Rath said. “She is most deserving of this recognition and I expect we’ll continue to hear about the good work that Annette is doing to help save lives for a long time.”

Adamczak and her husband, Dwayne, lost their 14-year-old daughter Emily Rose in June 2009 after she collapsed on a soccer field during practice. Her death started her mother’s crusade to promote the importance of CPR training and installation of AED machines in public places. Adamczak is credited with securing AED machines for the athletic fields where she lost her daughter. Today, she continues to push for state legislation that would require CPR training in school.

Legislator Rath has partnered with Adamczak to promote the importance of CPR and AED training. Community groups or individuals interested in receiving CPR and AED training are encouraged to contact Legislator Rath’s office at 858-8676 or email edward.rath@erie.gov for information.

The Citizen of the Month award is presented to outstanding individuals who have gone above and beyond to give back to their community and whose achievement is worthy of recognition.

“We are fortunate to have Annette in the community; her expertise is an asset. Every time she trains someone in CPR, she is making Erie County safer,” Legislator Rath. “I want to not only recognize her dedication, but thank her for efforts.”
