Niagara County First Responders to Host Benefit for Johnson Family at Murphy Orchards

On Sunday, August 5, from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., The Wrights Corners, Miller Hose of Newfane, and the Olcott Fire Companies will host a Corn Roast benefit for the Johnson family at Murphy Orchards in Burt, N.Y. Admission is free, but all proceeds from the corn roast and other activities will be donated to the family.

Our entire community has been shocked by what happened to the Johnson family on July 24, 2012. The first responders on the scene were stunned by the extent of the disaster and wanted to help in some way.

There will be a free outdoor concert by the Barker Community Band at 1:30 p.m. Corn from the farm will be available to steam, roast, or buy and take home, fresh from the stalk. The orchard will also offer tractor-drawn wagon rides to the cornfield. There are also baby farm animals in the petting zoo.

Fire engines from the three companies will be on site for attendees to see up close and fire fighters to explain what they do. There will even be fire truck rides for the kids.

This event will also give the community a chance to meet the first responders from these three local volunteer fire companies and say "thank you" for all that they do.
