Nichols School Prep A Hockey Team Earns Championship Title

On Monday, March 7, the Nichols School Boys Prep A Hockey team became Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Champions! Nichols student, Andrew Poturalski ’12, scored 43 seconds into overtime to clinch the 6-5 win over Ridley College of Ontario.

It was an exciting game two in the best-of-three series. The entire team put forth an incredible effort to secure the coveted championship title.

Local Children Raising Nickels for Nails in Habitat for Humanity Fundraiser

BUFFALO, NY - Habitat for Humanity-Buffalo announced Wednesday the start of a youth engagement campaign, featuring a fundraising drive called Nickels for Nails, which will allow local youth from pre-kindergarten to college age, an opportunity to assist in the building process.

Nickels for Nails is calling upon area schools and youth groups to raise funds through the end of the month for the sole purpose of building a home for a local family in need. 

Thus far, 14 schools have signed up. They include: Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Williamsville), St. Bernadette School (Orchard Park), Southtowns Catholic School (Lakeview), Universal School (Buffalo), St. Joseph University School (Buffalo), Immaculata Academy (Hamburg), Enterprise Charter School (Buffalo), Sheridan Hill Elementary (Clarence), Buffalo Public Schools 79 (PFC. Sheriff Helps Annunciation Students Celebrate Reading Across America Day

Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard was a special guest at Annunciation School in Elma on Wednesday, reading books to a very attentive kindergarten class. Wednesday was Dr. Seuss’ birthday and National Reading Across America Day.

Located at 7580 Clinton St., Annunciation School will also be hosting an Open House and Winter Carnival from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10. Registration forms for the 2011-12 school year will be available during the event.

Clarence Agency Encourages Vendors to Buy Local

CLARENCE, NY- Buying local is now a central concern for one local industrial development agency.

On February 17th, The Clarence Industrial Development Agency became the first IDA in Western New York to pass a resolution urging recipients of IDA funding to buy local before they purchase products or services from vendors that are located outside the community.

“We strongly encourage businesses that have been helped by the Clarence Industrial Development Agency to buy from suppliers in Western New York,” Town of Clarence Supervisor and CIDA Board Member Scott Bylewski said.
