Parkview Bridge in Akron Reopens

Bridge had been closed for more than seven years

Erie County Executive Chris Collins is pleased to announce the Parkview Bridge in Akron Falls Park has been rebuilt and is now reopened to traffic.

The original picturesque bridge was built in 1933. After years of deterioration, it was determined the bridge was no longer safe, and it was closed in May of 2003. Erie County’s Public Works Department, led by Commissioner Jerry Sentz, awarded a contract to Cold Spring Construction Company to build a replica of the historic bridge in May of last year.

The span is 159 feet long and is used by about 1,600 vehicles per day as well as pedestrians.

County Executive Collins said, “I’m thrilled the County was able to rebuild this replica of the original Parkview Bridge in Akron. Akron Falls is a beautiful County park, and this bridge reopening will make it easier for taxpayers to access all that this park has to offer."

Urgent: Pet Connection Needs Your Help!

Do to a manufacturing mix-up, Pet Connection Programs Inc. is in urgent need of reusable grocery-style bags for the Erie County Fair. The bags are then filled with pet supplies and sold to Fairgoers to raise funds for the nonprofit animal shelter in Marilla. Unfortunately, only 200 bags have arrived so far, and they sold out the very first day of the Fair.

If you can help with a donation of new bags, please call Joe Kirchmyer at 997-0152.
