Amherst Police Warn of Thefts Involving Elderly Victims

The Town of Amherst Police Department is investigating a series of complaints involving thieves targeting elderly victims. In each of the complaints a white male, described as 5’10 with a medium build, approaches the victim claiming to be a roofer and requesting access to the residence.

In two of the three incidents the suspect was accompanied by a white female with brown hair believed to be in her fifties. The female suspect would engage the victim in conversation while the other suspect would roam the residence claiming to inspect the roof. In one incident an undetermined amount of cash was taken. In each incident the suspect(s) left in a van described as grey, or tan.

Residents are urged to be cautious and not admit strangers into their homes. Anyone with information regarding these incidents should call Detective Ron Smith at 689-1385.
