Justice for All?

Earlier this month Jim Norman, a republican senator of Tampa, introduced a bill that would make it a first degree felony to photograph or video record any happenings on a factory farm. Why? Because the public should not know the truth about where what they eat comes from, and photo's and video's are undeniable proof of wrong doing. Where your "food" comes from should never be a secret, yet in Florida, if you seek the truth and snap a picture or video, you could be a criminal. To read more of that story, click here.

Need more proof that the agribusiness is not looking out for your safety, and that the government stands behind them? Take a look at Westboro Baptist Church and their protests of hate. They were told that it is their first amendment right to hold their demonstrations. However, look at those people who, with the same signage, and voice, protest animal abuse. Still their first amendment right to demonstrate right? Wrong, in impeding the economics of any animal industry, even in only demonstrating and doing nothing more, those people sharing the truth will be tried using the Animal Enterprise Terrorist Act. Yep, demonstrating against cruelty makes you a terrorist. Freeing animals from pain and abuse, hurting no one, not humans, not animals, simply freeing animals from torture, that makes you a terrorist. To read more about this double standard, click here. Breaking the law is breaking the law, with that I do agree, but one should be tried for the crime committed, NOT for terrorism. The governments ruse of "First Amendment Rights" can not be given to only some, but not all. A demonstration with signage, people and passion is just that. Defending big business at the expense of the people is NOT what government is meant to do. For the people, by the people? I'm starting to learn that that applies only to the wealthiest people, and with wealth you can get away with anything, or as long as you do not effect a company's financial gain...
