Planet Flop Fights Poverty with Soles

Soles4Souls, the international shoe charity collects new shoes to give relief to the victims of poverty and collects used shoes to support micro-enterprise efforts to eradicate poverty. Sole4souls looks for companies in the apparel and footwear industry to partner with to battle for the lives of people in natural diasters and to combat poverty.

Soles4souls is partnering with Planet Flops who make flip flops made of natural rubber and from every one flipflop purchased one goes to provide footwear to an impoverish adult and/or child in developing nations. It’s called the “Buy one, Give One” campaign. Planet Flop also has the Buy one Plant program that plants a tree in the Brazilian rainforest for every pair of its flip flop sold on its website. Soles4Souls’ other two divisions, Clothes4Souls and Hope4Souls.

Local Firm to Supply SUNY Campuses in WNY

EnergyMark, a local owned Natural gas and Power supply company, headquartered at Main Street in Williamsville, has been awarded a multiple year Natural Gas Supply contract worth over 22 million dollars by New York State.

EnergyMark will be supplying the State University of New York campuses including the University at Buffalo, Buffalo State College, SUNY Fredonia, Alfred State, and the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University with locally produced natural gas.  This local supply will be transported by pipelines direct from shallow vertical wells in New York and Marcellus Shale – horizontal wells in Pennsylvania.

"With the tremendous growth of available, locally produced natural gas, direct supply of this resource will benefit the local economy and large local energy consumers, like our University System" stated Gary Marchiori, EnergyMark's President.

Newly Completed Project at District’s 13 School Buildings Reflects Wide Ranging Approach to Saving Energy

AMHERST—The Williamsville Central School District (WCSD)—Western New York’s largest suburban school district—has received a $7 million energy-saving makeover at its 13 elementary, middle and high schools thanks to a partnership with the New York Power Authority (NYPA) involving new lighting, cooling, heating and ventilation upgrades and other improvements. The wide ranging measures enhance the reliability of existing electrical systems while improving the comfort levels for building occupants, including nearly 11,000 students and 900 faculty members. Approximately 65 percent of the $7 million cost of the overall project will be funded through state aid.
