NYC-BASED VENTURE CAPITALIST AND BLOGGER FRED WILSON  TO SPEAK AT LARKIN SQUARE ON AUG. 5

BUFFALO, NEW YORK — New York City-based venture capitalist and blogger Fred Wilson will be in Buffalo, New York on August 5, 2014, to participate in a “Z80 Labs Feeding Innovation Series” event at Larkin Square. Wilson will take part in a Q&A session led by Campus Labs Co-Founder Eric Reich. The event is presented by Buffalo-based technology incubator Z80 Labs, which is celebrating its second anniversary, and 43North— the world’s largest ($5M) business idea competition.

The session will be held outdoors from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. (EDT) in the covered boardwalk at Larkin Square, the venue sponsor. Parking and admission is free; however, attendees are asked to RSVP at http://z80-fred-wilson.eventbrite.com.

Street art and family fun all rolled into one! That’s what you can expect when the Expressions In Chalk Street Painting Performance rolls into nearby London, Ontario’s beautiful Victoria Park from Aug. 2-4.

Expressions In Chalk is dedicated to bringing the art of street painting to citizens and artists of London and beyond through public performances and special events. Utilizing local artists and art groups, the organization strives to promote the host city as a creative art destination. This free performance of Expressions In Chalk will take place on the ice pad in Victoria Park from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Pastels are the medium and works that are produced are only temporary.

The Western New York Land Conservancy is looking for volunteers from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, to join them in a summer cleanup day at the beautiful Kenneglenn Nature Preserve near East Aurora. Andrea Locke, coordinator for the Western New York Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (WNY PRISM), will help start the afternoon off with a talk about invasive species in our region and what you can do to help.

On Saturday, August 2nd at 7:00PM, the Friends of Harmony male a cappella chorus will be performing a free concert on board the USS Little Rock located at the Buffalo Naval Park.  The concert will celebrate the 224th birthday of the US Coast Guard.  The music will feature songs from the "baby boomer" generation and a special patriotic salute to all of our servicemen and women around the globe.   The performance will be under a tent with plenty of seating available.   No entrance fees to board the ship and enjoy the concert.

So close, you can almost taste it! Ribfest, summer’s most mouth-watering festival, is warming up the coals for it’s annual appearance in nearby London, Ontario, from July 31 through Aug. 4.

In addition to featuring 10 rib teams battling it out for awards and bragging rights, Ribfest also offers a large Home Show, foods from different cultures, six stages, 75 bands, 200 exhibits, 100 food booths and amusement rides. A $20 all-day ride ticket is available. This popular festival draws crowds of approximately 200,000 people each year, and admission is free.

Catholic Charities WIC to Host Breastfeeding Walk, Healthy Baby Festival Aug. 8 in Erie County

Anyone in support of a healthy start for babies or who would like to learn more about breastfeeding – are urged to participate in Catholic Charities free Breastfeeding Walk and Healthy Baby Festival on Aug. 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Delaware Park at the entrance of Colvin Avenue and Amherst Street.  

Catholic Charities Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program, which serves all of Erie and Niagara counties, is hosting the event to raise awareness of the benefits and significance of breastfeeding. The walk, in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week taking place Aug. 1-7 in more than 170 countries worldwide, is also designed to create community support to friends, family and others who are or may be considering breastfeeding, or who have breastfed.
