Enjoy The Journey Art Gallery in West Seneca will be home to numerous exhibits, classes and events as the upcoming holiday season approaches.

“Creative Journey,” a members’ exhibit featuring the work of more than 25 artists, will be on display from Nov. 6 through Jan. 6, with an opening reception at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8. Photography, pottery, jewelry, quilted wall hangings, watercolors, acrylics, oil and pastels – originals and prints — will be shown. Guests at the opening will also be treated to the music of Dana Eric Misenheimer.  

Colored pencil classes are scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays evenings from Nov. 12 through Dec. 2. Participants will create a holiday card design and print their own holiday cards! Continue the next two weeks with a landscape of your choice. The cost is $75 for gallery members and $80 for non-members.

Figure drawing classes with artist Diane Wright are scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 and 20. Wright will take you through steps and tips that will help you feel comfortable drawing the human figure. Please bring a pad of newsprint (or cheap drawing paper), soft lead pencils and a sharpener to the first class. Participants will also take turns as models during the first class. The cost is just $10 per session. 

Wine, Women & Art returns from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14. Guests will create a trinket box to hold life’s little treasures. Supplies are included, plus a little wine, chocolates and other goodies! The cost is $25 per person. Another session will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, with participants creating a beautiful set of holiday wine glasses. Call early to reserve a spot.

Pen and ink drawing classes with artist Lynn M. Jay will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday evenings, including Nov. 18 and 25 and Dec. 2 and 9. The cost is $75 for gallery members and $80 for non-members. A variety of techniques will be taught to students from beginners to advanced, and all students will complete a drawing suitable for framing. Students will work together on two small class projects. A supply list can be found on the gallery’s website.

Come experience “Turkey Broom Class” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, and learn an old folk art craft to pass down to generations. All supplies are included in this class. The cost is $35 for gallery members and $40 for non-members.

“Artistic Gifts,” a gift-giving event to kick off the holidays, will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, with a reception and live music by Dana Eric Misenheimer. Items available for purchase will include holiday ornaments, jewelry, cards, prints, knit-wear, scarves, journals and more. The promotion will run through Dec. 28.  

Artist Diane Wright will also be on hand during the Nov. 22 event to sign copies of “An Earth Child’s Book of the Year,” written by Marian Louise Camden and illustrated by Wright. A magical, nature-loving walk through the seasons and moons of the year, children can search for birthstones, magical animals and trees, and learn the cycle of birth, life, death and spiritual renewal. With glimmers of the myths and legends of natural Celtic lore, children will discover new things each time they explore the book.

“WNY Architecture” is this theme of Enjoy The Journey’s next amateur photography contest. Subjects can Include historical buildings, lake cottages, silos, industrial buildings, your own home, bridges and more. The entry deadline is 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4. An awards reception will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, and photos will remain on display through Dec. 21.

Paint your own glass holiday ornaments with artist Andrea Oswald beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at the gallery. All supplies are included for $25, and participants will each take home two decorated ornaments with beautiful matching ribbon.

A special holiday shopping event with singer Mari McNeil performing the songs of the season will take place at the gallery from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. Come and shop while listening to your favorite holiday songs!

Little ones ages 4 to 6 who are accompanied by an adult are invited to visit the gallery at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, to make gingerbread houses. All supplies are included; the gingerbread house will be made with graham crackers, cereal, candies, a homemade tube of royal icing and a coffee creamer carton for the structure. The fee is $15 per child, and spots must be reserved by Dec. 11. Be sure to bring your camera to this fun activity! 

Additionally, Enjoy The Journey is announcing a call for artwork for the gallery’s holiday exhibit. Framed artwork, canvases with painted edges, holiday ornaments, journals, stocking stuffers, jewelry, knit wear, cards, etc. will be considered. This is a six-week exhibit; a perspective can be found on the gallery’s website under “Calls for Work.” The opening reception will be held on Friday, Nov. 22. Drop-off dates for artists are Saturday, Nov. 16, and Monday, Nov. 18.
