Dog Contest to Highlight Pet Connection’s July Community Events

Pet Connection Programs Inc., a nonprofit maternity and special care animal shelter located in Marilla, has several community events planned throughout the month of July. The shelter has been placing animals into loving homes throughout Western New York since 1984.

From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 16 and 30, Pet Connection volunteers will be at the new Lancaster Outdoor Market located in the Aurora Street parking lot between Broadway and Pleasant Avenue. While at the market on July 30, Pet Connection will host a fun day of dog contests, including best trick, ugliest dog and best dog and owner lookalike. Contest registration will take place from 8 to 9 a.m., with the competition beginning at 10 a.m. There is a $5 entry per contest, and great prizes will be awarded.

All Roads Lead to the Annual Annunciation Picnic

The annual Annunciation Church Picnic, a fun-filled family event featuring great food, rides, raffles, music, specialty booths and much more, will take place August 19-21 on the parish grounds at 7580 Clinton St. in Elma. 

The fun kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday, August 19, with a delicious fish fry, a classic car show from 6 to 9 p.m. and music by Hit ‘n Run from 7 to 11 p.m. under the beer tent.

So what’s the deal with this Ribfest event taking place July 28 through Aug. 1 in nearby London, Ontario? The name alone is enough to make your mouth water!

Ribfest, London’s Rib Festival, offers 250 exhibits, 75 bands, a beer garden, 100 food booths and rides galore. And did I mention that admission is always free?

“Family Shows Canada has produced more than 500 events across Canada. Our 25th annual London Ribfest is the biggest festival of its kind in North America,” said Doug Hillier, organizer of the event.

Community Invited to Lancaster Relay for Life Today

After more than four months of planning, 54 teams comprised of 561 participants will take to the track of Lancaster High School on Saturday, June 4, and Sunday, June 5, for the third annual Lancaster Relay for Life.

The event will open at noon June 4 with the Survivor’s Lap, and the public is invited to participate in team fundraising activities until 10 p.m. that day. Relay is held rain or shine, and no pets, bicycles, skates or skateboards are permitted. It also is a substance-free event, and no smoking will be permitted.

Teams will continue to raise money Saturday with a variety of onsite fundraisers, including food,   beverages, a Chinese auction, gadgets and trinkets.
