Daemen Named Fit-Friendly Worksite by American Heart Association

Daemen College has been designated a Platinum Fit-Friendly Worksite, the highest level awarded, by the American Heart Association (AHA) for the college’s efforts to help employees eat better and be more physically active.

This is the second consecutive AHA distinction received by Daemen, which last year was named a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite. The Fit-Friendly Worksites Program is intended as a catalyst for positive change in the American workforce by helping workplaces make their employees’ health and well-being a priority.

“This national designation reflects a culture of wellness that’s been fostered at Daemen through campus-wide efforts focused on the overall health of our employees that have produced many positive results,” said Daemen President Gary A. Olson. “We are honored Daemen is among the elite group of organizations selected for this important distinction and to again be recognized for our strong commitment to providing the best workplace environment possible for all our employees.”

Daemen earned platinum-level status for offering employees physical activity options in the workplace; increasing healthy eating options; promoting a wellness culture in the workplace; implementing at least nine criteria outlined by the AHA in physical activity, nutrition and culture; and demonstrating measurable outcomes related to workplace wellness.

The college’s wellness efforts support employees achieving a healthy lifestyle through exercise, good nutrition and healthy eating, stress reduction, wellness events, and other campus activities hosted throughout the year.

“Knowing the many lifelong benefits from engaging in wellness efforts, we remain dedicated to encouraging and motivating employees to stay fit and be healthy,” said Pamela Neumann, Daemen director of human resources.
