Local Fitness Instructor Named Ambassador to Sports Legacy Institute

Primordial Strength Inc. President Steven Helmicki of East Aurora was recently named a Sports Legacy Institute Ambassador. The mission of the Sports Legacy Institute is to advance the study, treatment and prevention of the effects of brain trauma in athletes and other at-risk groups. SLI was founded in 2007 to “Solve the Sports Concussion Crisis,” and in 2009, SLI launched programs to also serve military veterans.

SLI is primarily focused on the study of the degenerative brain disease Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, or CTE, a condition caused by repetitive concussive and sub-concussive brain injuries. Helmicki contributes by communicating the Institute’s message locally and continues to advance neck and trap training that aids in the mission.

Local Fitness Expert Creates New Training Program for U.S. Marines

East Aurora resident Steven Helmicki, president of Primordial Strength Inc., was contacted by trainers from the U.S. Marine Corp. base in Camp Lejune over the summer to consult on new training methods. After contributing with Noreen Kuhn on the Semper Fit presentation titled “Uncommon Training with Common Movements,” next came a week-long mentoring program that ran daily from 6 a.m. until the dead of the night.

Primordial Strength to Offer Concussion Reduction Seminar to Area Athletes

Sports-related concussions have been all over the news lately, thanks in large part to some serious injuries that have occurred in recent NFL and NHL games.

From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, December 11, Primordial Strength Inc. — a leader in neck and trapezius training and the anti-concussion movement — will conduct a Concussion Reduction Seminar through Neck and Trap Training at the Lancaster Elks Lodge, 33 Legion Parkway. The cost is $40, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the annual Trench Trophy award event. The trophy is presented annually to Western New York’s high school “Lineman of the Year.”

Local Powerlifter is Training Other Athletes to Win

In his early teens, Steve Helmicki considered himself a bit of an undersized football player, which led him to begin training in his parents’ attic with a DP vinyl and sand weight set and a Bill Grant fitness manual. While countless other young athletes might have a similar story to tell, very few — if any — have ever taken it quite as far as Helmicki.

His passion for fitness and weightlifting would eventually lead him to national and world powerlifting titles and even some world records. In fact, he’s built a weightlifting resume that goes beyond being impressive. Statistically, he is among the all-time greats in a sport that doesn’t get a tremendous amount of exposure. If it did, he’d almost certainly be a household name by now.
