CLARENCE, N.Y. -- A doctor from Clarence will serve the next 36 months in prison for the unlawful distribution of Oxycodone.

Dr. Matthew Bennett, 49, was sentenced on Monday for unlawfully distributing and dispensing Oxycodone, a controlled substance. Along with spending 36 months in prison, Bennett also had to surrender his medical license and forfeited $19,000.

Investigators say between May and July of 2012, Bennett issued prescriptions for controlled substances to undercover law enforcement officers without a proper medical exam. On several occasions, Bennett also gave prescriptions to undercover officers in exchange for items like paper products and a gas grill.
