Clarence, NY - There was barely a dry eye during a funeral service for Nicholas Sardina. The 27-year old Iraq War Veteran from Clarence died last week in Kansas hours after being involved a fight.

Family and friends paid their last respects Friday morning at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Clarence.

Sardina was attending the University of Kansas, and also served as a Sergeant in the Kansas National Guard. Sardina left Clarence back in 2005 when he joined the Army, and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Jay Fisher, a distant family member told 2 On Your Side, "He was a quite an accomplished gentleman. Very proud of his record, very proud of his record of his service. It's just a terrible loss."

Police in Lawrence Kansas continue to investigate the fight Sardina was involved in where he suffered a head injury.
