Fun In The Sun This Weekend

Buffalo, NY - Although the 4th of July is still days away, this weekend and its beautiful sunny weather is the perfect jump start for the holiday.

In Kenmore people there celebrated the annual Kenmore Days. Village Clerk and Treasurer Kathleen Johnson told 2 On Your Side this event just keeps growing by leaps and bounds.

"It started out in Crystal Beach with trips to Crystal Beach it has evolved to right here in the village," said Johnson.

People came out by the dozens to buy arts and crafts and other items being sold at Kenmore Days. Johnson says there's more to that as well and it all happened at Mang Park.

"A giant carnival, lots of musical live entertainment combining with our farmer's market," said Johnson.

A few miles away, and this time in the Town of Clarence it was all about Clarence Day in the Park. Under a nearly cloudless sky hundreds of families spent a day of fun in the sun.

Bruno Defaria came to the park with his family. "It's family oriented which make it great, and there's a good community spirit here which I think is also very nice," said Defaria.

Local musicians provided the music to keep the small crowd in front of the stage entertained. Young children had activities all to themselves to keep them busy all day long.

"I went on the pony rides," said one young child. She went on to say, "I've been on lots of bounce houses over and over again, and I got my face painted."

With temperatures in the lower 80's a lot people cooled off by taking a dip in the pool. Others took in a puppet show held in a nice cool spot out of the sun. All this in anticipation of the Saturday night pre-4th of July fireworks show.

Franklin Catalfamo of Lancaster said this about the fireworks show, "Its very exciting. They do a very good job. Its probably one of the best in the area I would say."

Kenmore Days was put on by volunteers and sponsored by several local businesses. Clarence Day in The Park was organized by the Clarence Lions. Money raised by the event will go towards not-for-profit organizations in the town.
