County Clerk Jacobs and AAA of WNY offer “Passports on the Move” Outreach Event

Erie County, NY- Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs is going that extra mile and teaming up with the AAA of Western and Central New York to offer a “Passports on the Move” outreach event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18th at the AAA Travel & Insurance Center located at 1737 Sheridan Drive in the Town of Tonawanda.

“I encourage anyone planning their upcoming vacation or a college student planning a semester abroad to come to our outreach and apply for their passport,” said County Clerk Jacobs. “My office is pleased to host this outreach event with the AAA in order to make obtaining a passport more convenient for all our customers.”

Those who attend the outreach will be able to apply for a passport card and/or passport book can expect to receive their passport in approximately four to six weeks for routine service. If necessary, the County Clerk’s Office offers an expedited service which reduces the processing time down to 3 days.

A Cheektowaga native is hoping to add another songwriting accomplishment to her resume as she crafts music to honor her family and help others.

Lisa Barrett, a 1986 graduate of Cheektowaga Central High School, is a nominee for Female Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year in the 2013 Clays Country Music Awards, sponsored by Clays Country Radio.

“I’m honored to be nominated right alongside some incredibly talented artists and songwriters from around the globe,” she said. “Thanks to Clays Country Radio, my original music is being played in approximately 80-plus countries internationally. It’s an awesome feeling to hear your song right after Carrie Underwood, Loretta Lynn or Garth Brooks.”

Erie County, NY- As a service to Erie County residents, County Clerk Chris Jacobs will be offering additional “Passports on the Move” outreach events the second Tuesday of each month. The next event will be held on Tuesday, September 10, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Erie County Auto Bureau, located in the Northtown Plaza, 3095 Sheridan Drive in Amherst.

“The Clerk’s Office is pleased to make this service available in order to meet the growing demand for passports,” said County Clerk Jacobs. “I want to make County government more customer-centered, including offering convenient alternatives for our customers to obtain passports.”

Teddy Bear picnic enhances partnership with Read to Succeed Buffalo

 

Brilliant sunshine was rivaled only by beaming smiles at Canterbury Woods this afternoon, as the area’s premier retirement community welcomed a special group of visitors for a fun-filled summer celebration.

Residents and staff from Canterbury Woods hosted a Teddy Bear picnic for dozens of youngsters from Buffalo child care centers. The event was planned in conjunction with Read to Succeed Buffalo, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing childhood literacy and improving student achievement by placing a priority on literacy for children from birth to age eight.

Family, Friends Help Teacher Battle Cancer

A school community is uniting to help one of its own.

Family and friends of Caryn Brown Reardon, a second-grade teacher at Cayuga Heights Elementary School in Depew, will hold a fundraiser from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at the Knights of Columbus, 2735 Union Road, Cheektowaga.

Brown Reardon, who has taught in the Depew Union-Free School District for 15 years, suffers from a rare form of cancer known as peritoneal cancer, which affects the abdomen. 

The event will include a $2,500 drawing, basket and 50/50 raffles, a silent auction, food, beverages and a performance by Terry Buchwald.
