Barbecue Season is Upon Us! Remember to Play it Safe at the Grill

Lifesaving Tips from the Firemen’s Association of the State of NY…

With Memorial Day weekend right around the corner, many people will be hosting backyard barbecues. The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) is reminding residents to follow important fire safety tips so that they can enjoy a safe summer season.

“The outdoor cookout season will soon be in full swing.  Unfortunately, a barbecue grill could start a fire if certain safety rules are ignored,” said Firemen’s Association of the State of New York President David Jacobowitz.  “It’s important to position the grill far away from siding, deck railings, trees and other flammables. When gatherings involve children, it’s critical that a child-free zone of at least three feet is established around the grill.”

BUFFALO, NY – Earlier today, Rita Layer of Lockport unwrapped the key to a brand-new 2011 Ford Fiesta, courtesy of the Western New York Ford Dealers. Contestants numbered one to 98 lined the halls of Boulevard Mall Thursday for the “Fiesta de Mayo” contest hosted by Kiss 98.5. One-by-one contestants each selected a burrito and anxiously waited for the signal to unwrap it. Mrs. Layer was lucky number 47 and found a car key tucked into the tortilla, winning her the grand prize.

“I’ve never owned a brand new car!” said Layer. “Thanks to the Western New York Ford Dealers, I’m driving away with a great Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day and birthday gift. I can’t wait to go for a drive in my new Ford Fiesta.”

Jane Corwin Follows Republicans to Decimate Medicare

The following is a statement from Fabien Levy, Director of Communications for Kathy Hochul for Congress:

“On April 15, after a week of prodding, Assemblymember Jane Corwin finally admitted she supports the Republican’s 2012 budget that would end Medicare as we know it and give massive tax breaks to America’s corporate giants – the same corporate giants that paid absolutely nothing in income taxes last year.

“Jane Corwin talks a lot about cutting spending, closing corporate loopholes, coming up with alternative energy plans, and protecting our seniors, but the truth is Jane Corwin is all talk and no action.  She says she has a ‘plan’ that would ‘fight to begin getting our national addiction to spending under control.’  Well that plan is a point-by-point copy of the Republican budget, which does none of those things.
