Legislator Rath announces free rabies clinic at ECC North on Sept. 18

Erie County Legislator Edward Rath encourages pet owners whose pets are due for their rabies vaccination to attend an upcoming free rabies clinic for dogs, cats, and ferrets. Organized by the Erie County Department of Public Health, in partnership with the Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society and the SPCA, serving Erie County, the clinic is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the Erie Community College North Campus, Noonan Center Maintenance Garage, 6205 Main St. (off of Youngs Road or Tech Dr.), Amherst.

The following requirements must be met in order to receive the rabies vaccination:
• Pets must be at least 3 months old.
• Proof of previous rabies vaccination must be provided to receive a three-year certificate; otherwise a one-year certificate will be issued.
• All dogs, cats and ferrets must be restrained using a leash and/or pet carrier.
• No person shall be allowed to have more than three (3) pets in line at one time.

It's a fall ritual to get our homes, cars and even ourselves ready for the colder weather. How many of us, though, consider the impact of the changing season on our pets? Michele Dixon, a health and nutrition specialist with Petcurean, says there are simple things we can do to keep our pets healthy and safe through the fall and winter months. Yard Sale and Chicken Dinner to Benefit Pet Connection

Pet Connection Programs Inc., a maternity and special care animal shelter located in Marilla, will host a Chicken BBQ and Yard Sale on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Marilla Fire Hall, 1950 West Ave. The yard sale will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a box sale from 3 to 4 p.m. The chicken dinner starts at 11 a.m. and dinners are take-out only. 

With chicken by BW’s Barbecue, dinners will also include mashed potatoes, and gravy, homemade noodle salad, Pet Connection’s famous cream corn bake, rolls and dessert. Dinners are priced at just $9 per person.
