(AMHERST, N.Y.)—Ethan Allen of Western NY will celebrate its grand re-opening on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27 with a series of special events marked by food, music, giveaways and promotions. The cornerstone of the weekend will take place on Saturday, October 26 at 1:00 p.m. as Amherst Town Supervisor Barry Weinstein will officially declare the day as Ethan Allen of Western NY Day in the Town of Amherst.

 

“Ethan Allen in Western New York has been locally owned and operated since 1966,” said Ken Slomovitz, Ethan Allen of Western NY managing partner. “Even though Ethan Allen is a national brand, every dollar that is spent in the store goes back into our community.”

 

The store’s original location on Sheridan Drive just underwent over $150,000-worth of extensive renovations and upgrades. The exterior received a facelift with a new color palette, installation of a new roof and AC system and a redesign of the entire sales floor, featuring bold new colors and a change of the display concept, helping customers feel more comfortable when they shop.  The result is a fresh, modern and open sales floor that encourages customers to freely roam and test the furniture, talk with design consultants and create a living space specific to their needs and lifestyles.

 

“We’ve moved away from beiges and neutrals and embraced different and unusual color palettes and combinations,” said Slomovitz. “This shift in design philosophy is what’s happening on a national scale as well. The economy is getting better, design shows on cable TV are more popular than ever and as a result, people are embracing color in their homes, not shying away from it.” Slomovitz cites greens, reds, purples and yellows as popular design colors.

 

Ethan Allen of Western NY is also changing its design aesthetic, reflected on a national scale as well. Instead of rooms being stiff and formal, with matching sets and styles of accent tables and upholstery, the store’s designers are encouraging customers to decorate with whatever they love, no matter if it matches. “If you love it, it works,” said Slomovitz, “plain and simple. You will be living in and using the rooms, not the designers. It’s important for customers to feel comfortable in the space and choose pieces based on how they feel about them.” Slomovitz added that the staff is there to help customers feel comfortable with their decisions. “They ask what customers want to say with their designs and invite them to share what they’re looking for in a room, how it will be used, family members and ages, interests, hobbies, etc. That way, we can get the full picture and help them with their choices, making a living space that’s not only beautiful, but comfortable and accessible.”

 

And while it may come as a surprise that the store has actually reduced its physical inventory, Slomovitz said it’s the result of customer feedback. “They told us they want the store to be more open and navigable.” Slomovitz wants them to come in and sit on the furniture, stretch out on it and see if it fits them, not only physically, but emotionally. “Very rarely does a customer walk by a display and say ‘I want my room to look exactly like this.’ We want our store to be used as a real-life catalog, offering examples of what’s available, and also showing great design.” Modern technology also plays a large role in helping the store’s customers visualize a space, with iPads and Apple TV used to show everything offered at Ethan Allen. “With all the different styles, options and finishes, the sky is really the limit for the choices a customer can have. It’s not so much about what we sell, but about what the customer wants,” said Slomovitz.

 

Aside from the proclamation, the grand re-opening event at Ethan Allen of Western NY will feature cheese tastings from Premier Gourmet on Maple Road. Gift cards in the amount of $15 to Premier’s Maple Road location will also be given away to every group of customers who visit Ethan Allen of Western NY this Saturday and Sunday. Local musicians will provide entertainment that day as well, and Ethan Allen of Western NY will also have promotions and giveaways, including a “15-Minute Refresh” where customers can come in with their design questions or problems and have a no-commitment consultation with one of the designers. They can also enter to win an Ethan Allen modern bar tray and 12 bottles of wine from Ravines Wine Cellars, located in New York State’s Finger Lakes Region.  

Ethan Allen of Western NY employs a staff of 26 and has supported numerous local nonprofits, including the SPCA Serving Erie County, Carly’s Club, Hospice, the Darwin Martin House, Food Bank of WNY, Child & Family Services and the Heritage Center, just to name a few.
