50 States. 50 Weeks. 50 Years Old: Western New York Native Takes on Ultimate Marathon

When people turn 50, they usually throw a huge party, or treat themselves to a vacation getaway or new car. But David Miller, 49, has much bigger plans: a trip to each of the 50 states -- on bike.

His expedition, titled "Bike 50 at 50," consists of him taking a year-long (50-week) bike ride through each of the 48 contingent states, as well as Hawaii and Alaska the day after his 50th birthday, to help raise money for four different charities. He will travel for six days a week, biking about 70 to 80 miles a day.

River Road Golf Course: A Well-Kept Golfing Secret

River Road Golf Course: A Well-Kept Golfing Secret

We’re about to let Western New York golfers in on one of nearby London, Ontario’s, best-kept secrets: River Road Golf Course. Opened in the 1990s, this par 72 public course challenges both professional and casual golfers.

Located at 2115 River Road, River Road Golf Course was built along the banks of the Thames River. A challenging 18-hole layout, holes vary from forgiving fairways to tight tree-lined terrain and offer a variety of scenic landscape. Extensive improvements were made in 2008 in regards to ease of play, allowing River Road to appeal to a more broad audience. Golfers will also enjoy the relaxing at-the-turn restaurant.

Safety Precautions for Local Bicycling Enthusiasts

Safety Precautions for Local Bicycling Enthusiasts

Some simple rules of the road can help keep bicyclists safe when they venture out for a two-wheel excursion. Following are some tips courtesy of Buffalo attorney John Feroleto:

1.) Wear a properly fitted bicycle helmet. Protect your brain, save your life.

2.) See and be seen. Whether daytime, dawn, dusk, foul weather or at night, you need to be seen by others. Wearing white has not been shown to make you more visible. Rather, always wear neon, fluorescent or other bright colors when riding day or night. Also wear something that reflects light, such as reflective tape or markings, or flashing lights. Remember, just because you can see a driver doesn’t mean the driver can see you.
