Annunciation School to Host Ice Cream Social & Book Fair

Annunciation School, 7580 Clinton St., Elma, will host an Ice Cream Social & All American Book Fair from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 20, in the school. The event is open to students and families. Members of the community who are interested in learning more about the school and parish are also encouraged to attend.

Books will be available for sale, as well as delicious ice cream sundaes for only $1. There will also be a pumpkin decorating contest, and children are invited to wear their Halloween costumes. Pumpkins entered in the contest should be decorated at home. If you would like to light up your pumpkin, please use a non-flammable light source.

Junior Achievement of WNY Receives Grant from Akron Schools for Economics Program

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Akron Central Schools is funding $6,000 worth of Junior Achievement’s (JA) financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and work readiness programs. In turn, Junior Achievement of Western New York will recruit volunteers and provide the materials for JA Company Program and JA Economics to be taught at Akron High School. 

The two programs will be presented to six 12th grade economics classes at Akron High School in the 2010-11 school year; three classes will receive the programs in the fall, and three classes will receive the programs in the spring.    

Catholic School Teachers Go Back to School

With the start of the new school year less than two weeks away, Catholic elementary school teachers are not only busy preparing their classrooms, they are engaged in professional development as well.

During the week of August 17, the diocesan Department of Catholic Schools hosted a number of workshops, ranging from brain-based learning to using learning centers in the classroom.

The sessions included:  Brain Based Learning: Procedures and strategies to address all learners; Using Learning Centers in the Primary Classroom; a Practical Guide to Design and Manage Learning Centers.
